Frequently Asked Questions
Everything startups need to know about TomorrowLAB — general, application, and process.
General
What is TomorrowLAB?
TomorrowLAB is Tata Steel's startup engagement program and collaboration hub. We offer startups a fast-track into potential strategic partnerships with Tata Steel business units through proof-of-concepts and pilots.
Why should I apply through TomorrowLAB instead of contacting Tata Steel directly?
Approaching a large corporation and finding the right person is not always easy. TomorrowLAB connects you to experts with the mandate to initiate collaborations and assigns an internal champion responsible for your progress.
Does TomorrowLAB invest in or buy our technology?
No. TomorrowLAB does not invest in your company or take equity. The goal is for you to enter a commercial project with Tata Steel. You keep all equity and gain a unique opportunity to work with industry leaders.
Why is sustainability important?
Environmental and social sustainability is integral to Tata Steel's business strategy. TomorrowLAB takes sustainability into account throughout — from focus areas to application evaluation and program coaching.
What language is used during the program?
The official language is English.
Application
Who can apply?
Startups registered as companies in any country are welcome. You should be able to motivate why your solution is useful for Tata Steel. A functioning prototype and traction signals are expected.
When and how can I apply?
Apply through the TomorrowLAB website registration form. We have application periods throughout the year — check the News section for current cohort openings.
How detailed should my application be?
Fill in the form with as much information as possible. The more accurate information we receive, the higher the chances of being selected for collaboration.
Do I need to be an Indian citizen?
No. We welcome all nationalities. Your company must be registered in any country.
Can I reapply if not accepted?
Yes, definitely. There is no downside to applying more than once.
Process
What are the criteria to be accepted?
You must have a registered company and demonstrate a functioning prototype with traction. At least two Tata Steel business units must be interested in collaborating with you.
What is the process and timeline?
The collaboration process runs for six months, with the possibility of a six-month extension. Evaluation from first touchpoint to decision takes approximately 4–8 weeks.
What does it cost to participate?
We do not charge anything or take any equity for you to collaborate with Tata Steel business units.
Do I need to relocate?
No relocation is expected. We encourage presence for key dates like onboarding and kick-off, but remote collaboration is supported.
